Preventing pollution from the many institutional activities involved in running a hospital facility is the best way to ensure regulatory compliance, save money, and ensure the health and safety of the workers and the community. National partnerships have emerged between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and groups representing health care institutions to develop and pursue efforts to reduce the environmental impact of operating health care facilities, from running boilers to administering chemo drugs. Hospitals for a Healthy Environment (H2E) is one of those partnerships (see resource section). A great deal of information and guidance has been provided along with many case studies from hospitals. VAHHS, as part of its work with the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources, is providing the following resource links to assist its members to access the best and most relevant information available. Much of this was presented at a workshop organized by VAHHS on February 23rd, 2004.

Getting to, and Beyond, Regulatory Compliance
